CNC Swiss Machining of Ultem Beads for the Connector Industry

The connector industry requires many precision plastic components to build their end product. Ultem® is a popular material due to its high heat resistance in electrical and connector applications.

The Project

The customer provided 2D CAD drawings of the Ultem® beads and a five-week delivery time for the finished product. The small pieces required our swiss machining services to meet their precise measurements, as well as our expert technicians to maintain that precision throughout a three-step manufacturing process.

The Severna Solution:
Swiss Machining Services

As specialists in swiss machining services, Severna Operations fulfilled this order for Ultem® beads for the connector industry. On our Star CNC Swiss Machining Center, we used a three-step process: drilling the six holes on the bolt patterns, drilling a center hole, and trepanning both sides.

We maintained high tolerances of ±.0005” with a finished diameter ranging from .100” down to .070” and a thickness of .030”. After production, burrs were removed by hand and with crogenic methods.

We also utilized lights-out, 24-hour manufacturing services to complete this order within the required deadline.
