A manufacturer of connectors with military uses approached Severna to make an insulator for a GPS application. Composed of Torlon®, the component will be able to withstand severe service environments. Severna used our CAM Swiss machining operations to turn the diameters, drill holes, and mill a groove in the insulator. The final piece measured .075" in diameter and .120" in length, with a slit width of .010". The part was deburred using manual and cryogenic methods. As a full-service machine shop, Severna was able to design and create custom tooling for the customer, including the manufacture of a unique saw tool to perform the slitting operation. We maintained tolerances of ±.0005" and performed 100% dimensional inspections to meet our stringent quality standards.
